• Here is a very interesting and RARE artifact from the World War II period
• It is a soldier art pillowcase, displaying a humorous scene - an American Grizzly bear hurling artillery from Alaska, across the Bering Sea to Japan, with the Rising Sun flag seen on the left
• Scrolled inscription, in Red over yellow, underneath - U.S. ARMY ALASKA
• The backing of the pillowcase is made from a part of an American flag
• Yellow fringe on outer edge
  
• Sweetheart soldier art, meant to be sent back home to the wives and loved ones of soldiers
• Signed by the original owner, in the yellow scroll margin - HENRY, STEWART, and dated to the right - MAY 22 / \'44
• On May 22nd, 1944 (a Monday) in WWII history,
  - The Japanese destroyer Asanagi was torpedoed and sunk northwest of Chichijima by American submarine Pollack
  - The Japanese submarine Ro-106 was hedge-hogged and sunk north of the Admiralty Islands by American destroyer escort USS England
  - The week\'s issue of Life magazine published a photo of a young American woman with a Japanese skull sent to her by her boyfriend in the U.S. Navy
