Thunder Mugs are made for making Thunder (big time noise), notfiring projectiles
1-1/4\" Bore Black Powder Thunder Mug
Freshly machined in the US
Hand turned by an actual machinist, not made on a CNC by aprofessional button pusher
Meet the Industrial Series
It is severely overbuilt
It weighs 11 pounds 3 oz
The barrel is some sort of steel that my local steel yard had in stock
They told me it was 1018
If it\'s 1018, then I\'m Elvis
It\'s considerably harder than 1045
Whatever kind of steel it is, it eats High Speed Steel lathe bits for lunch
It requires caroffere bits, which 1018 most certainly does not
It was machined from a solid piece of 3-1/8\" steel
It is smooth bored to 1.25\", or 1.25 caliber
Height - ~6\"
Bore Depth – 3.75\" full inch bore + 1.25\" deep x 3/4\"diameter powder chamber for a total bore depth of 5\"
High speed ground finish, which is smooth to the touch
The high speed grinder left a bunch of odd swirl patterns in the steel, and it looks more interesting in person than it does in pictures
The wick or fuse hole is 1/8” so it fits standard cannon fuses
It will make one heck of a bang

Keep it cleaned, keep it oiled when you are not using it, andkeep it forever
Rem oil works quite well in between uses to prevent rust
I have been asked just what the heck a Thunder Mug is
Well, it\'s fun, that\'s what it is
Thunder mugs make for a great introduction to black powder!
If you want to make a giant boom, follow these simpleinstructions
First, you will need 1/8\" cannon fuse (check local hobbyshops and sportsman\'s clubs, or just google 1/8\" cannon fuse), some formof paper wadding (newspaper, phone bookpaper, any kind of paper willdo), and black powder (or black powder substitute, such as pyrodex, which you canfind atWalmart in the sporting goods section)
You will also need some form of powder scoop (if you make yourown, make sure it is non sparking, i.e., not made of aferrous materiallike steel, because spark + powder = boom), a ram rod (1\" wooden dowelworks great)
After you have assembled your materials, it\'s time to fire yourThunder Mug
Step 1 - Cut off some cannon fuse (make sure it\'s long enough togive you time to get away from the Thunder mug. It typically will burn around30 seconds per foot, so keep that in mind) and stick it in the fuse hole
Step 2 - Dump some black powder in the thunder mug. Thisparticular thunder mug has a powder chamber, so just fill it
Step 3 - Pack that powder down as tight as you can get it withyour ram rod.
Step 4 - Pack some paper wadding over top of the black powder. The tighter, the louder! Completely unpacked black powder with no wad will makea rather disappointing pa-too sound instead of a bang, whereas properly packedblack powder with proper wadding will wake the neighbors in the next town over
Step 5 - Light the fuse!
Step 6 - RUN AWAY FROM THE MUG!!!!
Step 7 - Enjoy the boom
In short, class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: 14pt; text-align: center; line-height: normal;\">You can put more or less powder than what fits in the powderchamber if you want
As long as the fuse meets the powder, it will fire, and you arenot going to hurt this mug with too much black powder
Thunder mugs are easy to use, and an absolute blast!
They are great for celebrating holidays or any day that ends inY because why not?
This is a Thunder Mug, and is not sold to fire projectiles, justlike every single cannon on
