This is an amazing, historical collection of antique photographs from the construction of the Pacific Northwest Traction Company Rail Line from Mt. Vernon to Bellingham, through Skagit and Whatcom Counties, Washington State. The Pacific Northwest Traction Company was known as the Seattle-Everett Interurban Traction Company before 1912, and the line they are constructing in these photos was originally known as the Bellingham & Skagit Railway Line before being called the Bellingham-Mount Vernon Interurban Line. There are 165 photographs in total across 47 pages, with a front and back cover bringing the total to 49 pages. They are titled on the cover as \"Pacific Northwest Traction Company, northern Division. Vol. 20A\".
The photographs range in dates from January 17, 1912 to July 12, 1912. They are all numbered, in this lot are numbers 142 - 318 inclusive, but numbers 272 - 275 and 304 - 312 inclusive are missing. The photos are also all titled or noted as to what the subject is. The subjects include the construction of bridges over rivers including the Skagit, views of Sedro-Woolley, Mt. Vernon, and other towns, workers constructing the rail line, and other infrastructure and construction views. The black \"flecks\" on some photos are artifacts from the process of transferring the negative to a positive. Several photographs have minor tears, and several have come partially loose from their pages but are still attached. Overall this collection is in great antique condition, and would be a fantastic collection to any collection of train and transportation history. The front cover notes that this is volume 20A, presumably there are other collections like this still in existence, but this is the only one we could find in our research, making this a truly unique piece of Western American history.
The photo sizes are 6 5/8 inches by 4 5/8 inches and 10 inches by 6.5 inches. The total size of the book is 11 1/4 inches by 7 1/4 inches by 1 5/8 inches thick. As previously stated this item is in good antique condition, please examine photos, condition description, and general description carefully for more information on the condition.
