The rarest collectible San Francisco Mint issue, 1860-S three dollar gold piece hails form a mintage of just 7,000 coins many of which were melted and the rest heavily circulated. Mint State survivors are nearly unobtainable, the present piece being the first uncirculated example we have had the pleasure of offering. A dazzling, semi-prooflike example the fields are a uniform pale wheat-gold shade and glow with modest reflectivity. The strike is bold with strong definition throughout. Wispy handling marks define the grade, but none distract for the overall impressive eye appeal. PCGS reports just three finer! - Three Dollar
