$1111.11

Very Rare and stunningly beautiful, original 1870’s, Chromolithograph on Tin American Advertising Sign for \"Aetna Life Insurance Company\" lithographed by one of the premier American Lithographers - Kellogg & Bulkeley of Hartford, Connecticut. This fantastic, 19th century, Tin Lithograph Advertising Sign measures approx. 23 1/2” by 18” and advertises the \"Aetna Life Insurance Company\". The sign was manufactured by Kellogg & Bulkeley in the style of the finest American manufacturers of Lithographed Tin Advertising Signs - Wells & Hope Co of Philadelphia and F. Tushfarber & Co of Cincinnati, Ohio. This is certainly among the highest quality Tin Lithographed signs we have ever had the pleasure to offer for sale and both the lithography and the condition is simple outstanding!!

The Sign features a central image of the Mount Etna - the Sicilian Volcano of historic fame. The Volcano is pictured in a state of eruption with a somewhat idealized seaside city at its base and a harbor in the foreground with steam and sailing ships. Text on the Sign reads \"Aetna Life Insurance Company, Hartford, Conn.\" and \"Paid Policy Holders over $44,000,000 / Agencies in the Principle Cities and Towns in the United States\". Further text identifies the officers of the Company.

This fantastic example of American Lithography on Tin was printed in at least 8 colors and is an example of the very best in American Chromolithography of the 19th century. It features the beautiful, gold gilt ink lettering popular on early American Advertising Tins but rarer on Advertising Signs. The scans below do not do justice to the beauty and “eye appeal” of this wonderful Sign. The outstanding lithography, the intricate artistry and the desirable subject matter make this a classic piece of American Advertising Art.

This rare, original Aetna Life Insurance Company Advertising Sign in very good condition - the colors are rich and warm - bright and vibrant and the Sign displays beautifully. The surface of the Sign is stable and sound and there are no significant scratches, areas of loss, surface damage or repairs of any kind. There is some unobtrusive crazing to the original varnish coating and a few minor surface blemishes but overall the Sign is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully!!

We offer this wonderful American Tin Lithograph Advertising Sign, as always, without reserve and with the confidence that it will attract the serious attention it justly deserves!!
