$375.00
This 1871 Harper's Weekly bound volume is a remarkable piece of history that provides a fascinating glimpse into the politics of the time and the events that shaped the world. The original cloth hardcover is in very good condition and has been well-preserved over the years. The paper is supple with bright ivory coloring. The bound volume is missing the December 30th issue but is otherwise complete. The removal of the December 30th issue did not impact the integrity of the binding which is in very good condition with some wear consisting mostly of scuffing. The boards and spine are firmly attached to the original leather & cloth binding.
This first edition publication includes illustrations by the renowned political artist Thomas Nast at the height of his power and influence as he pursued and defeated William ‘Boss’ Tweed and his ring of corrupt New York City Tammany Hall politicians. The volume’s 1216 pages covers a variety of topics, including the devastating Chicago fire and the deadly Franco-Prussian war. It's an incredible addition to any collection of antiquarian and collectible books and magazines.
