WELL THESE SUBJECTS JUST DO NOT COME AROUND TO OFTEN.The look on the Boy\'s face, his Expression is just Priceless.

This is quite an EARLY Oil painting MOUNTED on panel and the work again is either School of Gerrit Dou or in the style of Dou Please go to Google Images and type in Gerrit Dou PAINTINGS and you will seeapprox 50% of his Works have the same exact archway and curtains as can be seen in this painting I have listed but this is a most unusual subject. Just go to my gallery above and look at the last two Jpegs. The next to last picture is also up for sale on my seller list and can possibly be in the style of Dou or one of his students or from the Dou School. It is of an Aristocratic Scribe with precise quality to the Scribes face his pince nez glasses his hands and nails and the Scribes Face. They are all done with a quality beyond the excellent artist and just possibly by the Master I do not know..It is without doubt eitherin Dou\'s styleor by a student of Dou\'s or School of Dou.

The very last jpeg is of a Dou attribution that I sold last year on of a Fiddle player. The reason I pictured both of these paintings is that I wanted you to see how Gerrit Dou did his backrounds...All quite similar in style to the Dentist painting. All 3 having the archway with the Curtains and all employing a shelf in front where the Artist placed different implementsIt will be quiteapparentto you after researching his paintings which were mostly all of the same size and having the samebackground, specifically the archway and folded curtains and the placing of implements on the shelf in front of the characters. The archway at top and the use of the folded curtains is quite revealing which at first lead me to display all 3 paintings in Dou\'s style. You will observe a goodly amount of the artist\'s works under google images. Please type in Gerrit Dou paintings under Google Images. This is a tremendous opportunity for any Dentist or lover of Gerrit Dou or Fine Art to buy asuperlativework It is the subject matter that makes this particular painting stand out and so unusual. No doubt this is asuper painting. It\'s quality is obvious and this work certainly lends itself to a Dou or student of Dou or School of Dou . But this is a great scene with the Dentist holding up the boy\'s toothwhilstthe Boy is drooling spittle and his face expressing sheer pain. The painting is missing on the lower right hand side 3/4 s the way down on the far right it is missing approx 1/4\" of paint and truly a minor minor touch up to fix it since it is outside of the figures. It is outside of the immediate painting so no harm there, or it certainly can be left as is...The frame does need some help having 4 or 5 spots where the gesso is missing, mind you this work is old and really ingood condition for its age, its frameI say is quite a bit later then the oil on panel.Later probably early to mid 19th Century or so...Maybe the new owner can purchase a period frame or one befitting a painting of this quality andcaliberor having some restoration done on theexistingframe ...It is really a cherished and charming work and of a size that would fit in anywhere. The painting measures approx 10\" by 8\"..The frame measures approx 14 1/2\" by 16\". So there you have it. A most unusual genre subject not often seen and of very high quality. A great score for any Dentist that loves Art. I was unable to find a signature but rest assured this work was done by a very talented artist. A GREAT PIECE of Art carrying all the marks and touchesof a Gerrit Dou creation. Of that there can be no doubt. I also have another attributed to Dou painting listed, please see the 18thC Scribe sharpening his quill which can be found by doing an search on Gerrit Douand you will see the immediate likeness straight away.
