1904 LAPE Louisiana Purchase Expo PAX Dollar HK-314 NGC MS62PL Columbian Ship For Sale

The 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition was a major World’s Fair that was held in St. Louis, Missouri. As part of the World’s Fair, the 1904 Summer Olympics were also held in St. Louis. Several medals were produced in connection with the 1904 World’s Fair. This is one of the so-called PAX Dollars from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition which is listed as HK-314 in the Hibler-Kappen book on So-Called Dollars and has been graded MS62PL by NGC and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The obverse features a female figure with a sun and rays in the background. The reverse is a detailed ship, presumably the Santa Maria, as the reverse references the Chicago Columbian Exposition of 1893 and the discovery of America in 1492. This piece is bright white, lustrous and has decent prooflike mirrored fields with frosty devices. There are many small marks scattered about each side, but the piece is nevertheless an impressive looking example of the PAX Dollar.
