1928 SOUVENIR MEDAL: OPENING OF QUEEN ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL BY DUKE & DUCHESS YORK For Sale

This medal (or fob) is a souvenir of the 1928 opening of Queen Alexandra\'s Hospital by Prince Albert and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Duke and Duchess of York. The obverse has a high-relief conjoined bust of the Duke and Duchess, with their titles along the rim. The reverse features a central design showing the hospital over which is a large cross, with the wordsFOR THE SICK & SUFFERINGalong the upper rim and the words QUEEN ALEXANDRA\'S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WESTON-S-MARE JULY 1928 beneath the image. This medal was very well-struck, with excellent detail and very bold high-relief design and lettering on both sides. It is holed for use as a fob. It appears to be composed of brass with a gilt surface treatment, and it measures approximately 33 mm (1-1/4\") in diameter.

This item is in very good to very fine condition, with light wear, limited signs of handling, and some toning. It retains most of its gilt surface treatment and is lighter in color and brighter than is evident in the images.
