1934 CENTURY OF PROGRESS CHICAGO WORLDS FAIR TEA LEAF TEA BALL SILVERPLATE SPOON
This 1934 Worlds Fair tea leaf tea ball was part of our huge Worlds Fair and Exposition Collection. We mostly collected 1933/34 and 1939/40 items but also have many pieces from much earlier to much later Fairs. We offered the entire collection as a buy it now on with no takers and have since been selling it piece by piece. My husband, seller named Jal12147 and I will be listing pieces till it’s all sold.
Spoons like this were used back in the day before tea bags were a thing and everyone used loose tea in a teapot. This made it possible to steep a little loose tea in a cup of hot water, and not get the leaves in your beverage. This spoon is silverplate but doesn’t have a manufacturer’s mark on it. It does have a metal “1934 Century of Progress Chicago” plate welded on the handle. The tea leaf spoon is in excellent condition. The plating is shiny and there are no dings dents or scratches. The tea holder opens easily and has a tight clasp with a perfect fit. It’s an unusual and excellent souvenir of the 1934 Chicago Worlds Fair. By the way, this tea ball is shiny silver. The pink reflecting on it in the pictures is from my shirt. Sorry! The spoon is 5-3/8” long. The tea compartment is 2” long, 1-1/4” wide and 7/8” deep.
