4 Wedgwood Embossed Queensware 9.25” Plates Lavender (Blue) on Cream Shell Edge:
$88.00

These are 4 lovely Wedgwood embossed Queensware lavender on cream plates with a shell edge. They are 9 & 1/4 inches in diameter, so could be considered luncheon plates and are in excellent vintage shape, with no chips or cracks, or crazing. At an angle to the light, I see little to no wear or utensil marks on the glaze.

The backstamps are Barlaston and Etruria in green under the glaze, which are the names of the two factories Wedgwood used. Three of the plates have a small spot on the back outer inch and a half on the plate, where not enough glaze was applied, the other one has three spots like that on the back main part of the plate.

Etruria was in operation from 1769 to the mid 1900’s and the Barlaston factory opened around 1940. In 1930, Wedgwood started dating some of their bigger pieces with a system of 1st number for the month, middle letter for the workman’s mark, last two numbers the year of manufacture. The first plate I looked at is stamped 5 P 4 so it was made in May by “P” in 1940 something. The second plate is stamped 5 P 48, the third plate 6 P 48, and the fourth is stamped 5 P 49. So it looks like they were all made by “P” in 1948 or 1949.

The history of this Creamsware starts with Josiah Wedgwood opening his business in England in 1759. He experimented for months coming up with a cream colored pottery and glaze that could be made inexpensively. Once he did, Queen Charlotte purchased it, and was so pleased with it, she proclaimed him the Queen\'s potter and that the pattern should now be called Queensware! So Creamsware or Queensware, by Wedgwood has been around for a couple hundreds years! Not these plates themselves, they are around 75 years old.

Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look.

I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly, sometimes same day, always by next business day, and sometime on Saturday if I can get to the post office before it closes at noon.

Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking!!
