INCREDIBLE true vintage 1960s 2-piece babydoll nightie and peignoir set by Jenelle of California in gorgeous BRIGHT green! Size on the nightgown reads Small, but this is a very versatile set due to the extremely full sweep and absence of a fitted bust or waist. Shown on a women’s size 4 professional dress form.
I attempted to measure the sweep for the nightie—lying flat from left to right ends—and got approx. 2 full measuring tapes’ lengths, or 120” across. The silhouette is very similar to the Claire Sandra by Miss Lucie pom pom nightgown, except that instead of a full-length gown, this is a babydoll that reaches to just around/slightly below the knee.
100% nylon, excluding ribbon trim. Each piece has semi-sheer, double-layered chiffon and two layers of ruffles at the hem, which add to the marvelous fullness of the set. It wears like a dream!
In gently worn, used vintage condition with very few signs of wear—I noticed only the following small flaws:
- Tiny hole (2mm) in peignoir on wearer’s right, see photo
- There is a small safety pin at the front closure area (bottom of neckline) on the peignoir; not sure if there was a hook or a snap here originally?
- On the back of peignoir, in the seat area, there is a section with a number of very small superficial pull-type lines, presumably from sitting down; these are not significant but can be seen on close inspection (appears less smooth; see photo for detail)
- Care tag has been cut off the peignoir but is still intact in the inner side seam of nightie
