Original American Girl Josefina Doll form the Historical Characters Collection
Josefina Montoya (Full name: Maria Josefina Montoya Romero) lives on a rancho in New Mexico during a time of great change.
As the sixth doll of the historical character collection, represents the New Mexico area, in 1824, under Mexican rule (post Mexico\'s independence from Spain and prior to possession by the United States after the Mexican-American War). Throughout the associated book series, Josefina is characterized as hopeful, caring, faithful, and a good listener. However, as the youngest of her siblings, she\'s sometimes looked down upon or underestimated. This often causes her to feel upset or jealous, but her stubbornness pushes her to do her best to exceed everyone\'s expectations. Though she has a shy, quiet demeanor, she is driven to help others. She wants to use her heart and teachings from her Tia (aunt) Magdalena to heal others. She believes kindness is the best medicine.
Josefina Doll:I believe she is an early 2000s doll, perhaps around 2004-2005, because she has the look more akin to the Pleasant Company dolls but has the American Girl LLC stamped on her neck.
She comes with:The original white camisa (shirt), burgundy skirt with small flower blossoms, woven brown sash, white cotton drawers, moccasins, rebozo (woven shawl), brown pouch, white hankie with flower embroidery, and a faux jola coin.
Condition of the Doll and Clothing:
- Overall this Josefina doll is in great condition, with minimal signs of wear and tear.
- She is free of marks on her limbs, head, and body.
- Her eyes fully open and shut.
- There\'s a little slack in the limbs. But, she is still able to stand and sit.
- Her hair is in good condition (is generally the original length, no bald spots, texture is good, can easily be styled many ways and look very nice). However, there are some sections that appear to have been cut shorter (shown in photo 9), perhaps to get rid of bad texture. Nonetheless, her hair still looks nice not styled (photo 8). I.e. you wouldn\'t really notice the shorter pieces unless you\'re the one styling her hair.Additionally, when I received this doll secondhand she had many tiny hairs coming out when brushing. I washed her hair (with mild shampoo, as instructed) and brushed it several times to get as many small hairs out as possible. However, there may still be some left.
- All clothing is in stainless and in excellent condition, apart from the rebozo (shawl) which has some snags.Whether you are or you know a history nerd, someone who\'s fascinated by hispanic culture, or someone with a love for American girl dolls looking to expand their collection, this is a great doll, ready to be cared for and played with.
