American Solid Walnut Secretary Slant Front Desk circa 1840 Virginia. Plantation piece from Norfolk Virginia, remained in the same home until the last owners passing in the 1970\'s.First time in 200 years ever put up for sale to public.
The entire case and drawer fronts are solid walnut, original patina, with a simple string inlay. The desk been cleaned and the drawers have been tightened and reworked the back was painted black at some point. Never sanded or stripped. Beautiful American walnut no splits or cracks, the lid is a solid 14 in wide board. No doubt the tree was cut on the same property as the home. The hardware is original, all back plates are there but missing 5 bail pulls.This desk was on the plantation before and during and after the Civil War and has seen a lot of history.Some copies of original papers will go with the desk, land platt, bills etc. One letter signed George T. Wallace.I think Wood was the name of the owners of the Plantation. Americana to the heart.We will assist in finding a shipper if needed.Thanks for looking.
