Antique Carved Painted Wood Melon-Primitive Folk Art 9 1/2\" For Sale

Antique hand carved painted full scale exotic melon wood carving. 9 1/2\" long, 8 1/2\" wide. Skillfully carved.

In good condition. Has natural normal wear from age, but has some small paint loss here and there, see pics. I believe this was carved using three pieces of wood. One for the melon, one for the slice, and the other for the leaves. It looks like the leaves and melon were originally painted as a single piece, but although they are firmly attached with no play at all, there is a crack between the two. You\'ll notice on the back of the leaves you can see a single small nail head which is likely original also. Definitely a very old, one of a kind piece.
