Rare, outstanding and expertly executed example
A very rare late Edo-early Meiji Period cobalt blue monochrome Arita fluted plate made between 1850-1880
Finely hand enameled plate with detailed Red Headed Heronsand plants, possibly bamboo with gilt scalloped edges
9 3/4 inches (24.75 cm) in diameter & 2 inches (5 cm) high
Condition- Some tiny chips to enamel on single heron at top, circular ding/ chip to central part of plate approximately 2mm in diameter on blue ground and chip to plate edge. A few firing issues of very tiny dots which appear to be burst bubbles or pinholes to glaze on fluted portion. Light discoloration noted on herons. Burst glaze bubble to back along with some tiny pinhole bursts due to firing issues. See photos.
