Antique, I was informed this is a RARE- 18th century Rushlight candleholder with twisted shaft.
It stands about 11" tall and the tripod legs width about 6.5". Rushlights were used to hold rush reeds soaking in grease or oil (like cat tail reeds) which burned giving them light. This piece also holds a candle which would have been beeswax or a tallow candle. This would look great on a mantel with pewter chargers and treen in your keeping room. It could look fabulous on any cupboard, stepback cupboard or sitting on a shelf.
