ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER FLORAL REPOUSSE HAIRBRUSH late 1800s/early 1900s

Presented is a very nice sterling silver hairbrush. This piece dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The hairbrush is done in a lovely repousse pattern, with raised flowers and leaves against a stippled background. This was a very popular style, made by a wide variety of makers. However considering the quality and craftsmanship of this piece we believe it is probably made by Gorham.

This piece is in great overall condition. The silver has no splits, no dents, and no solder repairs. The repousse work is quite crisp. The bristles are still quite thickly set and in good shape, but they do show their age.

The hairbrush is hallmarked at the top of the back side with \'sterling patent\'.

The hairbrush is approximately 9 1/4 inches long.

This piece weighs 176 grams. Not all of this weight is sterling silver, considering the bristles and the wooden panel in which they are set.
