This Stonebridge Folding Lantern came from an estate sale of an antique shop. The tag that they have attached to the lantern reads - This Stonebridge Folding Lantern was made by the H.S. Stonebridge Manufacturing Company of New York City. It is patented and the last patent date listed is June 9, 1908. Notice the wonderful isinglass panel inserts. In 1908, heat resistantglass was still unavailable and isinglass was mostly used in stoves and other places exposed to high heat. The isinglass panels are thin sheets of mica.\" The mica has quite a bit of wear, please see all pictures. The roof of the lantern reads - Stonebridge Folding Lantern Pat\'d Nov 20, 190(8?) June 9 1908 C.H. Stonebridge Mfg Co. NYC made in U.S.A. On the top left corner of the roof on both sides is the Medical Corp Symbol, the caduceus, a winged staff with two serpents twined around it. In World War I this lantern was chosen as the standart issue field and Medical Corp lantern of the U.S. Army. The lantern measures 10 1/2\" high without the handle. The base measures 4 by 4.5 inches. It has rust and wear.
