Wonderful condition antique/vintage cape. According to my research this particular tag was created sometime between 1900 and 1940. I’m unsure of the fabric but appears to be a silk crepe? Lined inside, view photos carefully for condition, beautiful beautiful piece for an antique collector!
Info I’ve found:
Label created by: German Artisic Woven Labels (later name changed to Artistic Woven Labels, during WWI.
Some more info about the company that created the label for the garment (not the garment itself):
The German Artistic Weaving Company, established by Adolf Kluge in the late 19th century in New York City, initially imported narrow fabrics from Germany. As the company expanded, it began manufacturing within the US, thriving during the ready-to-wear garment boom. During World War II, it transitioned to Artistic Weaving Company and continued its success until the mid-1990s. Eventually, the company was sold to another North Carolina-based label company. This story highlights the Kluge family's multi-generational involvement in the label industry and the evolution of the business over time.
