Discover the \'Scottish Maid\' schooner, wooden model of thisbeautiful ship whose purpose was to compete with the steamships on the tradingrace between Aberdeen and London. Built in 1839 by Alexander Hall and Company,the design of the Scottish Maid was influenced by the regulation of the eraconcerning taxes and fees for its measures and displacement. The result was aslender helmet and sharp bow, which together with a large surface of the canopyallowed faster navigation even with heavy loads. The Scottish Maid regularlyspent about 49 hours on the journey between Aberdeen and London, and its designwas widely reproduced.
