$34.99

For the person who wants a complete set. You are offerding on two (2) different copies of the \"Official Miniature View Book Panama-Pacific Exposition.\" These were published in 1915. These are the lighter tan copies and one features \"Over 150 Views\" while the other features \"Seventy New Views\" (see below for far too much information). I have detailed everything I could in the condition description. All-in-all, a nice copies of 100-year-old books on the anniversary of the Exposition.I pack well and ship quickly (USPS Priority Mail with tracking and insurance included). See my other PPIE view books. Will be listing many this weekend in various conditions, including some in near mint and some of the 12 x 9 inch variety. I have a huge collection but it\'s time to reduce it to a more manageable collection. May list other historic and historical books on San Francisco as well.- - - -

A word on view books of the Panama Pacific InternationalExposition (the “PPIE”). With the 100year anniversary upon us, there has been great interest in collecting ephemeraand memorabilia from the PPIE. The “OfficialExposition View Book Publisher” was Robert Allen Reid of 150 Halleck Street inSan Francisco. His company was veryprolific, and many copies of different books were published in 1915, almost allwith nearly identical names. Most of thesebooks originally came with envelopes, and the versions with the originalenvelopes are generally considered more collectible (as the envelopes werefrequently discarded, and certainly not designed with material meant to last aslong as the books). It is confusing forpurchasers to know the difference, so here is some information I hope you finduseful (regardless of whether you decide to buy from my offerings or from thoseof other sellers):

·The most common found are the “Official MiniatureView Book of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition.” Note the word “miniature.” These measure 6 inches x 4 1/8 inches. They came in several colors, most commonlytan, but also a darker brown, blue, yellow, etc… The books themselves were well made, and itis not difficult to find copies in very good to excellent condition. The photos are all black and white and onlycontain captions.

·HOWEVER, there were two versions of the “OfficialMiniature View Book of the Panama Pacific International Exposition.” While the front and back covers are essentiallyidentical, one states on the front and back covers “Over 150 Views” while theother states (in identical type-face) “Seventy New Views.” They are also nearly identical in thickness (Ibelieve 64 pages vs. 62 pages), as the 150-view version tends to include far fewersingle-page photographs.

·Much less frequently found is “The Red Book ofViews of the Panama-Pacific Exposition San Francisco 1915.” These books measure 6 7/8 x 5 inches. I believe they are 96 pages. Like the slightly smaller “Miniature” viewbooks, the photos are all black and white, although they contain descriptionsand facts instead captions. These booksare more difficult to find in pristine condition, including the fact that withany moisture, the red cover could “bleed” on to the first or last page of thebook.

·Finally, and least common, there are the largerbooks, including (1) “The Blue Book, a Comprehensive Official Souvenir ViewBook of the Panama-Pacific Exposition at San Francisco 1915,” 12 which has agray-cloth hard cover; “Official Souvenir View Book of the Panama-PacificExposition at San Francisco 1915,” which includes forty pages of largeengravings; “The Souvenir View Book of the Panama-Pacific Exposition 1915 SanFrancisco,” with 46 photographs; “The Exposition: The Panama-Pacific Expositionat San Francisco 1915” 12 x 9 inches, with a multi-color cover; and the veryrare “Sculpture and Mural Paintings – in the beautiful courts, colonnades andavenues of the Panama-Pacific Exposition at San Francisco 1915,” 12 x 9 inches, embossed cover tied with a ribbon, frontispiece with tissue-guard. It wouldn’t surprise me if there are others, but these are the ones of which I am aware.
