Seven incredibly unique seasons of college football, spanning 3 global wars, with the legendary GREAT LAKES NAVY BLUEJACKETS.  The weekly accomplishments of the Navy’s finest team--at the Great Lakes U.S Naval Training Station---gathered the top headlines on the sports pages of the every major newspaper from coast to coast.  This book features interviews with 25 former players, 100+ rare photographs, rosters, season records, statistics and box scores—with a beautiful glossy softcover binding.  The complete story of the historic Great Lakes Navy football team comes to life in the untold piece of Navy, War, and Sports history.

The book focuses on the 1918, 1942-45, 1953-54 seasons.  During the peak wartime years, the team included 80+ professional football players in the Navy at Great Lakes including 8 in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  The Bluejackets notched gridiron victories over Midwestern greats, such as Notre Dame, University of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, etc.  Included is the story of Great Lakes’ 1919 Rose Bowl victory, Papa Bear George Halas, Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane, Great Lakes role in the origins of TWO pro football teams, football greats such as Ara Parseghian, Coach Paul Brown, Marion Motley; the 1954 Salad Bowl Game, Navy legend Capt. Slade Cutter, and much more.

The book measures 11 inches X 8.5 inches in X 1 inch; with 346 pages.

You are buying, among the last remaining copies, from the author.  If you found this item, because you have a family member that played at Great Lakes, I am always interested in hearing about former players--of any year.  If Dad or Grandpa played outside of the \"varsity years\" and is not covered in-depth as other seasons; I\'d be happy to share my research with anyone who makes a purchase.
