Circa 1889 – 39 STAR FLAG
The rare 39-star flag was never an official flag of America. Inthe late 1800s, it was anticipated that the Dakota territories were would comein as a single state. Flag manufacturers mistakenly gambled possibility of theDakota Territory entering the Union as one state and produced and manufacturedthe flag of 39-star flags. It was common for makers to produce flags in advanceof their official dates. This was a result of customer demand and competitionbetween the makers. Parade Flags like this were shipped to Hardware and GeneralStores which would attach to wooden sticks and sell to the general public for ceremonies.
