Tempest VC878 Instructions

(No CD included, see detailed Instructions below & included)

Conexant A Fusion

The Tempest cards are based on the Conexant BT878 chip solution for analog video signal capture on the PCI bus. The BT878 chip has been around for a long time and is therefore supported by many webcam and CCTV programs and other software. This includes that wellknown and very good programZoneminderwhich operates on Linux OS, and Blue iris software which operates under Windows.

Card Signal Format:

The card accepts composite input in PAL/NTSC formats at full D1 resolution.

Number of Inputs:

There are 4 versions of the card, all come with BNC connections either on the PCB or using a pair of octopus (pigtail) cables provided:

  • The 4 channel card has a single BT878 chip.
  • The 8 channel card has two BT878 chips on a PLX PCI bridge.
  • The 12 channel card has three BT878 chips on a PLX PCI bridge.
  • The 16 channel card has three BT878 chips on a PLX PCI bridge.

Frame Rate:

Each BT878 chip can support 30fps total with multiplexed operation (rapid switching) allowing the use of 4 inputs on each BT878 at the same time. The total frame rate divided into the number of active channels. Not all drivers support this mode. The maximum frame rate from each card depends on the number of BT878 chips on the PCB:

  • 4 channel card: 1 x BT878, 30fps shared by 4 inputs
  • 8 channel card : 2 x BT878, 60fps shard by 8 inputs
  • 12 channel card: 3 x BT878, 90fps shard by 12 inputs
  • 16 channel card : 4 x BT878, 120fps shard by 16 inputs

System Requirements:

  • Pentium dual-core or equivalent 2GHz processor or better
  • 2GB or more system RAM

Microsoft OS

  • DirectShow drivers
  • Windows XP SP3 32bit or server OS

Linux OS

  • Ubuntu 14( it\'s just plug and play. After installing the card you get proper video inputs per card, which can be configured with Zoneminder)

Application Software

The Tempest card has been tested using the following software:

  • Zoneminder (free Linux)(running APP -get install zoneminder and you can access it with a browser at http: localhost/zm )
  • Zoneminder under Ubuntu works great (tested for up to 32 Channels)

You can try the Windows Driver Model (WDM) driver if abovedoes not work for you.

Search for btwdmdrvinstaller5.3.8 zip on the internet, it isavailable on sourceforge.net.
