Gemini, Apollo Moonwalker and Shuttle Astronaut John Youngautographed NASA Lithograph!AGroup 2 Astronaut selection in 1962, John Young was clearly an overachieveramong this overachieving Group of astronauts.During his long NASA career, John Young would fly two missions in theGemini program, Pilot of Gemini 3 with Gus Grissom and the first manned Geminiflight, and as commander of Gemini 10 with Michael Collins. Young would also be only one of threeastronauts to travel twice to the moon, as Command Module pilot for Apollo 10and as Commander of Apollo 16. Youngbecame one of 12 men to have walked on the moon during the Apollo 16mission. John Young would again be apioneer in the space program as he commanded the first shuttle mission, STS-1and STS-9. He was scheduled to make arecord seventh flight as commander of STS-61-J but the Challenger disasterdelayed that mission. Still, Young’sachievements were a remarkable record for this Navy veteran.
