1960s Dynakit Stereo Tube Preamplifier with beautiful walnut case! Serviced and solid, it puts out that big, rich, warm vintage tube sound. Love it. If you are considering a PAS, this is a good one!
The PAS-3X was an improvement to the original PAS-3. The PAS 3X uses a rare design of tone potentiometer, where it is out of circuit when set to zero, or straight up. You can tell this one is a 3X by the the two notches on the back of each tone pot.
This is an unmodified 1960s design, not a modern preamp with multiple line level inputs. It works exactly as designed. I only point this out because I had this unit returned from a buyer who didn\'t understand what he was buying.
The \"Spare\" channel is low gain (line level) and works excellent for any music input.\"Tape Head\" and \"Special\" are high gain channels. I read that the \"Special\" channel was intended for a microphone.The \"FM-MPx\" channel sounds great with an FM tuner, and the \"Phono\" channel sounds great with a turntable. I never tried the \"FMA-AMB\" channel.
There is a little sound bleed between channels but that is just how these old Dynakit tube preamps are.
There is some light colored staining on the front faceplate, on the left side and across the bottom, which can be either subtle or obvious, depending on the lighting and the angle. The \"R\" in \"POWER\" is rubbed away and the word \"OFF\" is mostly gone. Typical wear spots.These things didn\'t bother me but replacement faceplates are available if you want to make it perfect.The knobs are all very nice.
The sleek walnut case brings this cool little amp from \"daily driver\" up to \"vintage furniture\" level. It has a few light dents but no scratches and presents as a nice piece!The amp is wedged into place with spacers and is easy to remove.
