English Victorian Sterling Silver Locket Bird Swallow Horace Woodward HW 1881 For Sale

This wonderful antique sterling silver locket features an intricate design with beautiful birds. The locket was crafted by Horace Woodward (signed HW) in Birmingham, England in 1881 during the Victorian era per the hallmarks that are on the locket. The theme of the locket is a loving pair of swallow birds on a branch, which in Victorian times symbolized loyalty, love and devotion. This symbolism makes it a unique and charming gift to add to any collection of antique jewelry. This locket measures 2\" tall (not including the bail) and 1 1/2\" wide. It weighs 13.6 grams. It is in very good antique condition with minor scratching and surface wear. Imperfections of age-related patina and missing one decorative point on the rim. I did not clean the patina as many antique collectors prefer it to remain on the piece. I use recycled packing materials as my small way to help the planet.
