Engraved June 9th 1870, Outstanding Custom Made Lap Desk. The Only One Of Its Kind.
Lap desks were usually used by train passengers to write letters, etc., and as status symbols, the more elaborate the piece was made the wealthier the passengers showed that they were.
This piece still has its original felt with ink stains that bled through the note paper.
Not pictured is an original inkwell that comes with it. This measures about 14\"W x 11\"D.
