These amazing vintage pieces were made by F.Dick in Solingen, Germany. The knife is a massive version of the Chef knife, often called a \'lobster splitter\'. The blade is 12.5\" long, made of stainless steel with ebony scales triple riveted to a full tang. The widest part of the blade is about 3/8\" thick and tapers toward the point to provide an optimal combination of durability and balance. A former owner carved \'M\' into the handle, suggesting that this was in use at a restaurant where chefs were expected to supply their own knives and, therefore, had to protect them from theft in a busy kitchen. Because of this knife\'s german origin, I like to say that the \'M\' is for murder as a reference to the classic German film.
The rod is about 14\" long, meaning it is long enough to hone even the largest of blades. The oval shape allows the rod to do more work with every pass of the knife, quickly realigning the edge for maximum efficiency. It has the maker name deeply stamped into its face. The handle is made of a light-colored wood, likely maple but don\'t quote me on that. It has a ring attached to the pommel allowing you to hang it from a hook on the wall or even from one\'s apron (like butchers of old).
Pieces like these are no longer manufactured, and if they were, they would be prohibitively expensive. Well I guess that depends on your level of disposable income, but they would certainly cost more than the fixed price I set for these. Buy them today or risk the gnawing feeling of a regret you can\'t shake no matter what you do.
I will pack the items securely in cardboard sheaths and place them in a box with packing material and mail them first class (free of charge).
