Startling hand coloring and illustration of masonic symbols either mar or enhance, depending on your point of view, this daguerreotype of a Freemason from the early to mid 1840s.
Scovills hallmark (Rinhart #46a), lack of preserver, and Lyre Motif case all date this to the mid 1840s. Has been resealed with filmoplast P90 and modern glass (the old soda glass was \"weeping\", which could damage the plate). Old seals are now stored in the case underneath the dag. The last two pictures show the original seals before I broke them.
I will combine postage, please see my other sales for other daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. Satisfaction guaranteed, returns cheerfully accepted within 2 weeks. Postage in both directions is on me if I\'ve mis-represented anything. I\'ve collected daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes for 40 years, so I know the difference between them. Unless otherwise stated, all images are in their original cases/mats to the best of my knowledge. From a smoke-free household. Caution, coffee may be hot.
International buyers: I do not use the global shipping program, since it is expensive for the buyer. If you win, I will ask you to pay just the actual cost of international priority postage, INCLUDING INSURANCE. I will send it with a customs form, so you may end up responsible for duties. Please do not pay until I\'ve calculated actual postage, the amount shown by is an estimate.
