These PACIFIC TRACTION freightcars were not just HO models, but HO WORKS OF ART. Made in aone-man-shop in San Diego, they were the most stoutly modeled woodencars ever built. No wooden kits offered to the HO market evercompared. I would venture to say that they would outlast today’sfragile resin kits. Not knowing the history other than information onthe labels, I went on Trainorders to inquire. Fred from TheOriginal Whistle Stop in Pasadena was the most informed respondent,selling hundred of these cars from the 60’s right up until thelate 80’s. Unfortunately, no respondent remembered the craftsman’sname. The builder spent several years making jigs to cut and fit thebasswood lumber. Each car was hand built, fitted with brass nails,grab irons, stirrups, brake wheel, and aluminum door slides. Alldoors open, but it is not advised because paint often chips,from thedoor channels. You will note some paint touch up on some aluminumdoor channel. The decals were sealed with clear semi-gloss lacquer.
The minute you pick up one ofthese cars, you will sense and feel the sturdiness. One respondentfrom TO used the adjective “Bullet Proof”. After you supply andinstall the trucks and couplers, the cars will almost hit NMRA carweight. They will be shipped wrapped in soft plastic, thenadditionally wrapped in their original rustic wrapping paper. Theoriginal box will be packed in one of our 6 X 6 X 9 hefty cardboardcartons.
