Huber VRB-4 Roanoke Banjo Resonator Fits Gibson & Others Luthier Parts Projects:
$195.00

Many similar banjo parts in my other listings.Uncleaned with lots of finish dings, dents, scratches, areas of dirt and white paint, dust, tape residue, and general wear. Dated in pen per picture near neck notch in 2011 when this was made and installed on the new Huber banjo it came on. Nice burled walnut with Gibson Style 4 white-black-white binding and wood marquetry concentric rings with the issues described below:
I tried to show the flaws in the pictures, but with the reflections it was difficult. There are areas of sanding and scraping, missing antiqued color finish on places on the binding from dings/dents, and quite a few dings/dents into the finish, especially on the sidewalls. As burl walnut is prone to do, apparently one of the burly grain lines opened up and a fix was attempted at the factory but not finished, likely because from what I have found, they didn\'t realize the veneer was not glued down around the grain crack and just fixed the crack itself. The crack looks to have been sealed with water thin cyano/super glue, and ready to scrape out, touch up, and buff, but none of this was done after the glue filling of the veneer crack on that one area because as I press on the area around the filled crack, I can see slight movement, meaning there is an air bubble under this repaired crack, so I think they gave up instead of opening the area back up and fixing it. The bubble apparently is a spot that during the lamination of the back during construction, this area did not get any glue under the veener. If you are careful of the thin veneer and use a SHARP razor blade, I don\'t see why this couldn\'t be sliced in a clean line, carefully lifted, and glue worked/flooded into the bubble and weighted until cured. Then when hard, it could be scraped clean and flush, touched up, and buffed out...I have fixed/repaired MUCH worse than this with this technique. The area that needs attention is about as big as the hazy/satin looking non gloss area around the crack line you see in the pictures. It is not a large area, and thin super glue will readily wick/capillary action into the void if you are patient and careful.
I have tried to be as honest and brutal as I can in conveying the issues with this resonator...it is not new looking, but could be fixed to look very nice with patience and care. Don\'t buy this if you are expecting a resonator with an excellent finish and no issues, though as it is now, it is solid and useable if you don\'t mind the appearance and knowing there is a loose area of veneer.
Solid usable condition, no wall lugs. Depending upon the outer diameter of your rim below the flange and the combination of that and the length of L brackets used, this will fit many Gibson style banjos, and fits the several banjos I have in the shop that I just tried it on.This is sold as is in it\'s present condition, for parts or repair with no returns for any reason other than misrepresentation. Therefore, if you have something that concerns you, ask me before buying. If you need any specific pictures to satisfy yourself, please ask me. This will be packed carefully for you.
Thank you.
