A VERY rare surviving example of an 1873 large leather bound, ornately decorated family bible. 151 years old! Gilded page edges, intricate leather scroll-work, and copper clasps. It has a detached spine, and some other damage such as a missing clasp part, but that is to be expected from a relic of this great age. See photo # 3 for proof of age. It has a front hand-decorated page dedicated to the family and their children who probably initially owned it (Photo #5). I have not gone through most of it, as I did not want to damage it by accident - who knows what could be hidden between the pages! This is a rare item for a collector or restorer of rare 1800\'s American literature, fancy bibles in particular.
This hefty bible is 13 inches tall, 10 inches wide, 4 inches thick, and weighs a whopping 10 pounds 5.3 ounces! It is full of illustrations, and even \"The Apocrypha\" -the collection of apocryphal ancient books thought to have been written some time between 200 BCE and 100 CE., and no longer included in the modern bible!I often accept reasonable offers.
