In a unique approach to creating his exclusive 2017 Star Wars Celebration print, Matt Busch created 150 separate trading card size (2.5 by 3.5 inches) images, then used those to create the final finished print. Entitled “40 Years of Cosmic Collectibles,” Busch takes fans down memory lane with depictions of actual toys, magazines, trading cards and more from Star Wars collectibles history. Best of all, for their print, a lucky 150 fans could actually obtain a piece of the original artwork itself used to create the print. Busch included a special space at the bottom for the card-sized image to the far left, an original, hand-drawn sketch in the center, and the signature and number of the print to the far right box. This particular print features the original artwork for the the missile firing Boba Fett ad (which was never actually released), an original Remarque on the print itself of Boba Fett, and is number 1 out of 250 prints (that’s right, it is print #1- the very first print in the run!). Please note – the sketch in the center is hand-drawn by Busch and the card-sized image to the far left is the actual, original piece of artwork used to create that particular image on the print. And it is of course hand-signed and numbered by Busch in the remaining square to the far right. One of the coolest print concepts for the entire Celebration! It measures 16 by 36 inches, is in near mint/mint and undisplayed condition and will be shipped with the utmost care. Preorders completely sold out at the Celebration! The original artwork is un-affixed to print (which is the way it came, though the artist recommended using double-sided tape to affix it when the print is ready to be framed). Images above include a stock photo of the whole print, the bottom portion with the original illustrations, and a close up scan of the missile firing Boba Fett card art itself.
About Star Wars Celebration Exclusive prints:
At each Star Wars Celebration, approximately 30 fortunate artists (out of hundreds of the industries top talents who submit preliminary entries) have their print idea selected for inclusion in the Celebration Art Show. Each magnificat image is strictly limited to only 250 hand-numbered prints with only a very tiny number of additional artist proofs created (the artists usually trade those among themselves).
