Mid to late 18thC. Antique (Ceremonial?) Persian Steel MACE featuring Qajar demon head.Approximately 66 cm/26 in long X 7.6cm/3 in wide. Engraved from top to bottom with various designs, flowers, and a moustache and beard for the curiously happy head.
Very good condition, especially given its age and apparent use for its intended purpose.These were meant to literally crack skulls in terrifying fashion in mounted battle. The mouth famously emits a banshee-like scream when swung through the air on the battlefield, magnified by thousands or even tens-of-thousands of Persian warriorsgalloping over the hills, freezing their terrified enemies in place.
Per my notes from the time of purchase, the dealer I acquired this fromadvised that the dings, dents and scratches (shown in the photos) indicate probable battle, not ceremonial use.
