This Lorch lathe was made in Germany in 1955 andis one of finest precision lathes ever in production. My research indicates itis the smallest back geared, screw cutting lathe ever made.The600 mm bed length version makes this ultra-rare. This lathe also hasthe rare epicyclic reduction gear train unit that can be placed on the end ofthe lead screw for extremely fine feed rates. These lathes rarely come on the marketand I have never seen one for sale in this museum quality condition, originalbed scraping marks are visible along the entire bed. A lathe is only as usefulas the accessories that accompany it. The accessories you see in the picturesare all original equipment provide by the factory.

Starting above and to the back of thelathe is the drive unit and overhead pulley drive system. The electric motor isthe only non-factory item; it is a stainless steel precision 3 phase motordriven by a VFD (variable frequency drive) that runs on 115-volt powerproviding variable speed. This overhead drive system is used to power thebeautifully made milling attachment supplied with a huge assortment of arborsand cutters. The drive is also used to power the grinding attachment and variousother accessories that need separate power. The indexing attachment is mountedon the milling slide which can be mounted on the compound of the lathe. A headstock,tailstock and tool rest raising block will increase the original 65mm centerheight if additional swing is required. There are 4 additional brass indexingplates and a spring loaded pawl that mounts on the headstock for additionaldivisions not accomplished by the indexing ring on the step pulley on theheadstock. Moving along, a follow rest, 3 quick closing collet attachments, axillaryspindle pulley unit, Lever feed collet holding tailstock, a turret tool holderthat mounts in lever tailstock, a set of 24 - 10mm collets, various tailstockaccessories, an additional slide that converts the bolt mounted tool post onthe compound to lantern style, File rest and special bed mount for it, Completeset of change gears and original gear train chart, 3 jaw chuck with both setsof jaws, 6 jaw bezel chuck with additional set of jaws, beautiful 4 jaw chuck,faceplate, additional drawbars, roll of leather belting,andseveral other odds and ends. Needless to say, a very comprehensive and completepackage.
