Antique CUTTER/CARRIAGE/SLEIGH FULL LENGTH COAT. I believe this to be horse hair/hide that was sewn together to make this garment when warmth was essential. I pictured a pair of gloves along with the large coat, however they will be sold in a separate sale at the same time. The coat was superbly made in it\'s day. I can\'t find any indicator as to a manufacturer. The dark inside appears to be all heavy would. There are (5) large 1-1/8" diameter buttons on both sides of the front closure area. Therefore, there are (5) corresponding loops secured on both sides of the front closure. You would have to fasten the buttons from the inside so that it would create an overlap closure to keep the cold out. All buttons are present. The one not attached is in the inside pocket. One of the ten original loops will need to be sewn to fully secure. A 7" widex 8" deep pocket with a 3-1/4" covering flap can be found on both sides inside. I believe the entire exterior of the large coat is horsehide??, but am not sure. Some of the hair, primarily on the back shoulders area has fallen out. Also, if you intentionally pull in that area, you can remove additional hair. The coat deinifitly has some bald spots. I would see this purchased merely as display, rather than for wear. I believe the wide inlay contrasting collar hide to quite possibly be sheared beaver?? I\'ve had some in the past, however I\'m not positive. It measures about 55" long x 22" in the armpit area x about 22" from top are to the other where it attaches to the chest/shoulder. The inlay, cold-up collar is about 7" wide at the widest span. This large coat is heavy....weighing about 14 pounds. The idea was that most people would be sitting in a sleigh/cutter when wearing this apparel.
