It is Very Rare to Find these Authentic Antique Dresden Oil Lamps with Any Authentic Antique Glass Shade. This one is a Beauty !! Similar Lamps , although not as Detailed as this one have sold in recent years for $ 2,200 - $2,600. The Highly Decorated Meissen - Style Dresden Porcelain Lamp offered here features Beautiful HAND PAINTED CAMEOS of COURTSHIP COUPLES and Detailed COLORFUL FLORAL SPRAYS . Note : These are Not simply Transfers or Decals like many later Lamps. These are HAND PAINTED. The Underside of the Footed Base bears the BLUE UNDER GLAZE SIGNATURE of \" CARL THIEME \". Theime made this Lamp in his Pottschapel Factory in Germany, between 1891 - 1901. Originally, an OIL LAMP, this Lamp was Professionally Electrified in the 1930\'s or 40\'s. It appears Great Care was taken when converting to electric, as I do not think a Hole was Drilled in the Base. A Form Fitted Metal Cup/ Liner was placed into the Oil Lamp Basin. The Converter Top features the Power Cord and Metal Casings and a Hand Painted Porcelain Insert that May/May Not be Original to the Oil Lamp itself. It certainly matches well and is contemporary to the Age of the rest of the lamp. The Converter Top has TWO WICK TURNERS which are Marked : \" P DUPLEX A \". The Chimney likely could be Original to the Oil Lamp, but not sure. The Simply Gorgeous Antique Hand Painted Glass Ball Shade does Not Perfectly Match the Floral Sprays of the Base, but Certainly Blend Very Well with it. The Shade features a Nice Old Gilted Gold Highlighted Top. It is Artist Signed on the Base: \" C. SHIRELY \". Through my research, I have found that often Hand Painted Ball Shades made by BACCARAT were purchased and Hand Painted for use with these Dresden-Meissen Style Lamps in the Late 1890\'s Early 1900\'s. It is Very Rare to Find ANY SHADE on these Lamps when found today. Given the size of these Larger Shades, Many have not survived through the many decades. The MEASUREMENTS of the Lamp is as follows: OVERALL HEIGHT with Shade and Chimney : 32 3/4\" ; OIL LAMP BASE ITSELF : 17\" and 6 3/4\" Wide at Feet ; The Electrical Conversion Top is 4 1/2\" in Height ; Te SHADE ITSELF is 10 1/4\" in Height and 10 1/2\" in Width ; the CHIMNEY itself is 12\" Tall. What a Beautiful and Rare Antique Dresden Lamp AND Shade for any Advanced German Porcelain or Lamp Collection !!!CONDITION: OVERALL, EXCELLENT ANTIQUE CONDITION for Dresden Lamp 120 years of age !! The H/P Glass Ball Shade has an Old Small Hairline Crack extending 3 1/2\"from the Top. The crack as been Stabilized many years ago as evidenced by a Small OLD White Enamel Mark on Inside of Shade near Top of Hairline. MOST antique Dresden Oil Lamps HAVE NO SHADE!!! There are a Few Tiny Flakes and Nicks Here and there on the Lamp Base. These could be easily touched up. As it is now, Not Noticeable unless Viewed Up Close. The Oil Lamp Base appears to have maintained its Original Integrity. It does Not appear to have a Hole drilled in it. The Lamp has an Electrical Conversion Cup that supplies the Electrical Cord and Socket. The Cup fits Nicely in a Metal Lined Cup on the Lamp Base. The Lamp presently works well and does Not appear to need rewiring at this time. I detect No Significant Chips, No Noticeable Wear to the Painted Features beyond Normal, and No Other Repairs.
