• The image area measures 23.3x 36.2 cm [9¼\" x 14¼\"], and the map is drawn on a scale of cities, towns, roads, travel routes, railways, telegraph cablelines, steamship routes, and natural features, with topography drawn inrelief and water areas tinted in a delicate blue wash.
• The map is titled \"Deutsch-Ostafrika\"in the upper margin and was published in Andrees AllgemeinerHandatlas byVelhagen and Klasing, Bielefeld and Leipzig, Germany, 1896. There\'s aninsetof Zanzibar and vicinity in the lower right corner.
• Andrees Allgemeiner Handatlas was amajor cartographic work published in several German and foreigneditions between 1881 and 1937. Richard Andree was a noted Germangeographer and cartographer.
• The coverage area of this map includes the present-daycountries of Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda, as well as parts of Kenyaand Mozambique. Among the named places are Lake Victoria, MountKilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Lake Tanganyika,and the Wami River.
