This is an original, 8x10\" certificate on which is attached an authentic piece of fabric removed from the wings of the historic Wright Flyer, the first airplane to fly. The Wright brothers flew this plane on December 17, 1903 in Kitty Hawk, NC.When Orville Wright prepared the Flyer for public exhibition, the original fabric had to be replaced as it had been under water during the Dayton, OH flood of 1913. He substituted new fabric of identical material. After his death, some of the original fabric that was on the Flyer on December 17, 1903 was found. This fabric was cut up, attached to certificates and authenticated by Harold Miller as being from the original Wright Flyer.Attached to this certificate is a genuine piece of this fabric that covered the wings of the Flyer on December 17, 1903 in Kitty Hawk, NC.This certificate came from the Orville Wright estate and is signed in ink by Harold Miller, the co-executor of the estate. The certificate is made out to Carlos G. Liggett who has also initialed the certificate in pencil.The piece of fabric measures 1 3/4\" x 1 3/4\". There are some cellophane tape stains at the top of the certificate where it probably had been taped into an album. There are also some stains on the fabric as you can see from the scan.A similar certificate with a smaller piece of fabric sold at the March 25, 2013 Bonhams sale this year for over $33,750, including buyers premium.This is the Holy Grail of aviation collecting!
