Warren Platner designed these iconic Lounge Chairs for Knoll in 1966, and they’ve been in production ever since. This set dates from 1975 and were purchased new at the Knoll show room in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. Unmarked, these are the real deal, acquired directly from the original owner of 49 years.
Metallic bronze frame with original golden velvet upholstery. Very good vintage condition; there are no stains, rips or tears in either chair and the frames show minimal signs of wear. Note, the fabric is separating on the back of one chair, as shown in the pictures.
Warren Platner (1919-2006), an American architect and designer, rose to prominence for his influential contributions to mid-century modernism. After studying architecture at Cornell University, Platner collaborated with architects such as Eero Saarinen before establishing his own firm in the early 1960s. Renowned for his iconic furniture collection designed for Knoll in 1966, the
"Platner Collection" featured intricately sculpted steel rods, departing from traditional modernist aesthetics with a more expressive and fluid design. Platner's architectural legacy includes notable projects like the Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Center. His timeless designs and innovative approach continue to impact contemporary interior design, reflecting his ability to seamlessly merge form and function.
