RARE Antique AUTOPHONE American Phonograph Co Record Player 1909 Multi Needle For Sale

This listing is for a RARE Antique AUTOPHONE Phonograph Record Player Plays Edison Pathe Victor & More. It doesn’t look like much at first; but the Autophone, made by the American Phonograph Company, is perhaps the most wonderous of all our disc phonographs / record players so far. It hides inside a relatively plain case but; (as proudly proclaimed on the original paper label) The Autophone is the ONLY phonograph that plays any kind of a record made, and uses the particular jewel or needle that should be used with each make of record, and that plays every record with absolute perfection without attachments & without injury to the record. It plays Columbia, Victor, Edison, Pathe, AND Operaphone discs. To my knowledge, no phonograph or record player - modern or antique- has replicated this ingenious design.

I have not been able to find out much of anything about this machine or its maker company besides the information provided on the label. It seems to be a model 10 or 15. Likely it wad made around 1909. They seem to have made a few other machines, each more complicated than the last and always intricate. One plays cylinders from an Edison that are arranged in rounds of 8 to be played one after another. I have not found another model like this one. The interesting design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of decor styles. It makes this an excellent staple piece for your collection, one your friends definitely won’t have! A great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor.

It is in good condition, with no major damage. Spring still seems quite strong, just has trouble keeping speed while the needle is down. I do not have the correct autophone steel needles, or all the record types it is actually capable of playing- so all I was able to do was very lightly test the built in edison style needle on a reproduction edison record. Perhaps steel needle records have none of the slowing issues while playing. The tone arm is quite heavy so lightening that load would likely help. Has a repaired section and starting of a crackle in the finish or a crack starting in the pot metal bracket holding the reproducer to the tone arm. Non structurally compromised as of now, could be repaired or replaced or treated gently as is. I assume the reproducer is original, I have lightly cleaned it but not disassembled it or the rest of the unit at all. The reproducer appears to work just fine. The case is in good shape for its age with no major areas of concern. I have only lightly cleaned the unit to avoid any damage, with a full wax & polish so to speak it would really shine!
