RARE 1873 CHARLES G. BUSH TABLE TOP PARLOR KALEIDOSCOPE
this is an original circa 1873 kaleidoscope manufactured by Charles G. Bush.
i don\'t know how these people get pictures of the inside, i sure can\'t but it is beautiful and you can see the liquid pieces
The tube (not including the spokes) measures 10\" x 3 3/8\".
The pebbled heavy harboard tube is in good condition showing a few scuffs. has the hole where the stand went.
There are no tears, cracks or soft spots. The rear eyepiece cover is removeable. Doing so reveals a glass lens held within a handsewn hardboard disk which is also removeable. Doing so reveals two pieces of glass set in a V pattern which are set into the tube. The tube or barrel, terminates in a dual brass collar with a glass lens behind which are held numerous glass pieces. The inner collar is held while the outer spoked collar is turned in a continuous 360 degree motion. Doing so allows the glass pieces to turn and tumble creating the infinite patterns viewed through the eyepiece. The brass shows typical patination associated with age. The spoked collar moves freely and with ease. The large glass lens is free of any chips or cracks. The glass pieces and liquid filled glass tubes, the heart of the kaleiscope, are in remarkably fine condition given their fragility. (had help with this description from another site)
