RARE 1947 - 53 Initial Signed William Moorcroft 9 3/4\" Black Columbine BOWL. 9 3/4\" diameter, 1 15/16\" high. Marked as shown. When I look at this piece, my eye only detects a black back ground. I have been asked if it could just be a very dark cobalt, because of the cobaltsmudges near the signature. So I suppose it could be, but I can not list it that way, because I still do not see cobalt, only black. This is a big, beautiful piece of Moorcroft, in excellent condition. The Columbine flower is actually much more red than the picture reflects. No chips. No cracks. Normal age appropriate crazing on colored glazes and base.
