This listing is for a Rare Art Nouveau Deco 1920s- 1930s Light Ceiling Hanging Fixture mid size Chandelier. It was salvaged along with several other fixtures from the bell tower of a convent in Pittsburgh PA where they were stored. Their only provenance was that they were once used in the building and stored when it was updated.
It is a lovely piece of reclaimed architectural salvage, with a strong art nouveau/deco motif, decorated with bright colors bold lines & geometric patterns. It is metal, possibly cast iron or spelter. It seemed a little heavy for spelter. I believe the finish is technically some kind of polychrome. It looks like something right out of a gatsby mansion, and possibly came from some great Pittsburgh house to the convent as salvage originally. I have only lightly cleaned the fixture, and have not rewired it. It is a simple wire job, and could use some of the old components. One of the 5 arms to hold the sockets is broken, and a piece is missing. This could be fixed with a purchased replacement part- they are numbered, a casted made replacement, or with just glue and a stick of some kind.
It is a rare hard to find design, a fixture your fellow collectors are sure to eye with envy! The finial is super tall and has an awesome design especially, unfortunately it is broken off about halfway up. Could be cut down to even heights and used still. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of styles of decor. Great for restoration of a building, collectors, display/ decor, gifting, and more.
It is in good condition, besides the aforementioned damage to one arm. One other arm has a piece missing, but is not compromised. Has some light paint wear, but paint is largely very good. I have lightly cleaned it to get the dust & Pittsburgh grime off, no other wiring or cleaning has been attempted. The current ceramic sockets are quality and appear still good, which could be re-used carefully, but have not been tested.
