DETROIT SAFE HISTORY
The Detroit Safe Company was in business from around 1865 until they were acquired by Diebold in May of 1919. Charles E. Walker left the employ of Diebold when he moved to Detroit in February 1916. He purchased an interest in the Detroit Safe Company, becoming the Vice president and Manager. He was active in the successful conduct of the business until it was acquired by Diebold. He remained in charge as general manager of the company, under the name Detroit Safe Company, selling Diebold safes until the company was closed down around the beginning of the Great Depression (1929), however they no longer manufactured safes.
