RARE c 1770 MOHAWK IROQUOIS INDIAN ELDER & SNAKE EFFIGY TALKING STICK n WAR CLUB:
$1999.00

This sale is for a Very Rare, Very Old, Authentic Museum Grade ca. 1760 - 1780 Revolutionary War Era Mohawk Indian Elder Effigy Elder\'s BURL Knot Hardwood Talking Stick in Solid Original Condition that was Collected by my Late Father Wayne Frisinger in 1960 from a Mohawk Family here in Cenrtal N.Y. State. It was handed down in the Family for Centuries and I know my Father paid A LOT of Money at the time - nearly as much as he made in a month my Mother tells. My Father was a longtime Teacher of Anthropology and History and a one time avid Collector of Iroquois Artifacts decades ago well before his death some 30 years ago. I know he had it Evaluated and Dated by an Institution some 50 years ago. The Family says that their many time Great Descendant was a Mohawk Elder that participated in the Revolutionary War for the British against the Colonists - However I cannot find any Info on the Name of the Family he obtained this Rare Early Mohawk Artifact from but I know they lived East of Syracuse N.Y. in the Mohawk Valley Region of N.Y. State.
This Artifact measures 31 1/4\" in total length, with a head measuring 3 1/8\" in length. There is definitely Age Wear to the Burl Knot Carved Head and somewhat to the Slender Shaft -- BUT -- It is in Solid Original Condition except where my Father once had a Descriptive piece of Tape with a Tag at the base - (see photos). The Elder Effigy Head is Quite Unusual as the Face is Beautifully Rustic but also has a Elongated Carved Neck beneath the Chin - I\'ve Rarely ever seen that before. The Slender Shaft has a Long Winding Snake Expertly Carved into this single piece of Wood heading upward toward the Head. Both the Snake and the Elder Effigy Head have Small Carved Bone Inserts placed inside the Eye Sockets of the Effigy Carvings.
Talking Sticks were Common among Virtually all Native American Peoples. Their Purpose: Only the Person holding the Talking Stick was allowed to speak during Village Meetings ensuring No Interruptions as the Holder Spoke and Ensuring the Full Attention of the rest of the Village Members.
**** sale WINNER RECEIVES A SIGNED LETTER OF PROVENANCE Verifying this Artifact as Described ****
