RARE MEN\'S VINTAGE JAPANESE SILK KIMONO & HAORI JACKET ENSEMBLE SET- ART LINING:
$80.88

GORGEOUS & RARE JAPANESE MEN\'S, VINTAGE, DARK BLUE, LUSTROUS, OSHIMA TSUMUGI SILK KIMONO & HAORI (JACKET) ENSEMBLE SET - THE JACKET HAS A WONDERFUL PICTORIAL LINING SHOWING an ORIENTAL SCENE WITH PAGODA STYLE TEMPLE, RIVER, TREES AND BRIDGE

It is very rare to see a men\'s authentic Japanese kimono and haori set offered in the UK so please take a look at this item.

This type of kimono and haori ensemble is a typical smart clothing set which would be used in the same way as a smart suit would be used in European dress. It would also be a very pricey item when new.

Both the kimono and haori jacket are made of a beautiful, lustrous, dark blue, oshima tsumugi silk. Oshima tsumugi silk is a popular and high end type of silk used for expensive garments. Tsumugi silk often has a few slubs (thickened threads) and this is characteristic of the fabric and not a fault. Having said that, this particular example has no slubs and is smooth.

Oshima Tsumugi is one of the best kimono textiles, with a long history from the Amami Islands, where Oshima Tsumugi has been produced for over 1300 years.
It is a type of pongee silk. Compared to other silks it is lighter in weight and difficult to crease. It is made in a very complicated and ancient process which is too complex to describe here but please look at this page to get some idea. style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; font-family: "Graphik Webfont", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">
The outer silk is a mixture of black & mid blue threads. The overall pattern is of little checks and dots.
The garments are completely hand stitched.

The lining on the haori is a very lovely and has a number of pictorial motifs. I think the lining is artificial crepe silk but it could be silk.
The front side, sleeves and background to the picture on the lining is a lustrous blue-grey with a fine crinkle texture.
On the back there is a pictorial panel which I think is printed with some matt gold hand painting to highlight certain areas.
The lining is typical showing auspicious motifs an ancient Japanese scene in a fan shaped frame. The scene shows a river scene with a bridge. On the bank are pine trees. On one side is a pagoda shaped building built on cliffs which is probably a temple.
The pine tree represents long life and resilience.

The lining on the long kimono is dark blue, semi-lustrous glazed cotton.

For the haori jacket, I have added very gently used, dark blue silk himo tying cords. This is an added bonus because they are usually sold separately and they cost minimum £10 up to £30 on their own. These ones have a flat cord, intricately plaited in a dark blue silk with a large soft tassel. The colour compliments the kimono\'s colour. The himo cords are pre-tied and just hook on, with little metal hooks, to little loops inside the lapels.

Please note this item does not come with a belt - although any sash or ribbon can be used to tie it. Authentic Japanese kimonos do not have belts but instead are worn with an obi. This kimono could be worn as a kimono or as a dressing gown/robe. Please see my other listings or email me if you wish to buy an obi.

AGE: I suspect it was probably bought circa 1980s and seldom used. The age is difficult to be accurate about because the same style is made over decades.

CONDITION: The kimono set is very gently used. The set is in overall excellent vintage condition. There are no major or conspicuous faults on this item but it is not quite perfect. The set is very slightly musty only. This issue is common in vintage clothing issues and will be acceptable to some buyer and not others. This is a item in great overall condition but it is not brand new and is a gently used, vintage item.

SIZE: The long kimono is a few inches longer than is average for this kind of garment. It should fit an average size man but not someone very large. Although this is a bit longer than usual, Japanese clothing tends to be smaller than European or US clothing so please check the size before you buy.

KIMONO MEASUREMENTS; Sleeve cuff to sleeve cuff width is 133cm/52.5”, overall length is 145cm/57, width across the back (side seam to side seam) is 61.5cm/24.25”. It weighs about 785g.

HAORI JACKET MEASUREMENTS: Sleeve cuff to sleeve cuff width is 137cm/54”, overall length at the back is 89cm/35”, the width across the back (side seam to side seam) is 62cm/24.5”. It is weighs about 525g.

The overall weight with packaging is quite heavy at around 1400g.

A NOTE ABOUT POSTAGE. The postage cost reflects both the heavy weight and the need for extra insurance associated with the value of this set.

If you need any more information or pictures just send me a message.

All information is to the best of my knowledge. Please bear in mind, that colours do not always show absolutely accurately on photos and on monitors although they should be close to reality. My items are mostly vintage and are not returnable unless grossly mis-described, so please check the details and measurements before offerding/buying. Please be aware that vintage clothing does not usually \'look like new\' even when it is in excellent condition. Some slight general signs of ageing and use should be expected. If these are conspicuous they will be mentioned in the description.Low response– if you have less than 3 responses, please email me before offerding. If you do not, I may cancel your offer and block you from offerding until we have communicated. Sorry about this but it is based on previous experience of problems.Overseas buyers must pay with paypal.Payment and postage terms: The postal charge includes a small packaging and handling charge. now charge me a final value fee commission on the postal charge as well as the item value. So I have had to pass this new cost on via the postal cost.UK buyers can pay by paypal, cheque, electronic bank transfer (email for details) or postal order. Item will be sent when funds have cleared. Basic 1st and 2nd class mail is only covered for £20. Therefore this kind of postage can only be offered on low value items. Higher value items will be posted by signed for mail with insurance cover up to £50 due to loss or damage in the post. If the item is worth more than £50 then I will send you an invoice with a special delivery option which you should choose if you want it fully insured. If the item is not fully insured, obviously you cannot get the money back if the item is lost or damaged in the post.On post to overseas.- The post office have recently reduced their cover on standard airmail to £20. Therefore I can only use standard airmail for low priced goods. This is not tracked, if you want a tracked service then please ask for a quote or choose signed for service. For higher priced goods I will be quoting for signed for mail which has insurance for up to £50. If the item sells for more than £50 and you want more insurance it will cost an extra £3. Sorry about that, but that is new post office pricing. If the item is not fully insured, then obviously you cannot get the money back if the item is lost or damaged in the post. Please note that once the parcel has left my hands, I cannot accept responsibility for delays caused by the performance of the postal services or customs in your country.Combined postage for Overseas- Please be aware that as the weight and value of the parcel goes up, so does the price of postage and the need to fully insure. It is not usually much cheaper to combine postage especially to overseas. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to send two or three small parcels than one large one. This is based on the post office pricing structure and is not in my control.Combined postage for UK buyers, depending on what you buy, I will look into the most secure and economical way to send combined parcels and advise you of options. But again as the weight and value of the parcel rises so does the postage cost. Please do not expect large savings on combined postage.

RETURNS POLICY– I do not take returns except in the exceptional circumstance of an item being wrongly described. Please understand that selling items on and posting them out incurs costs to me, so please don\'t buy unless you have read the description carefully and are sure that you want the item. Except in the situation where an item has been wrongly described, the buyer is always responsible for return postage.
