RARE WWII JAPANESE MILITARY CHEST BOX, MEDALS & CASES, AWARD DOCUMENTS, FLAG:
$935.00

Thanks for viewing this sale!

I believe the items to be from WWII, but am not positive if theyare from or around the WWI, WWII, or a mixture of both time periods. Dates on the award documents would provideinformation - if only I could read Japanese!

It is extremely rare for a Japanese military medal chest tobe this complete with the original contents.Though the item has some imperfections due to its age & wear, theydo not take away from the \"WOW\" factor, the rarity, the beauty, northe decorative appearance of this piece.

I have researched to the best of my very unknowledgeable& limited abilities so please keep that in mind with regards to all the believedto be correct information and descriptions included in the title line & inthis sale. I could certainly be inerror & any error would not constitute return of item so please take thatinto account before offerding. Likewise, Iwill do my best to list issues with this item but any minor issue(s) notlisted, would not constitute return of item.

I have many more pictures than the 12 posted, so please feelfree to request additional measurements, photos, or close-ups of any of theitems, areas, or issues. The outer blackareas of the chest may appear to be a dull black in the pictures instead of itstrue dark, black, lacquered color. Sorryabout any shadows and/or reflections of room or myself on item photos.

In the 1st feature photo, the items included in this salefrom left to right are: Row 1 - the fourclosed medal presentation cases (medals are in the cases but for thisparticular picture, I chose to show the tops of the medal presentation cases) -- Row2 - the holding tray in which the medal chest rests -- Row3 - the \"box\" part of the medal chest itself with two presentationtubes (containing a total of four award documents matching the four medals inthe listing) & a used Flag of Japan-- Row 4 - the top cover to themedal chest with two photos -- Row 5 - the medal chest not only has a topcover (pictured in Row 4), but, once that top cover is lifted, there is asecondary slat piece cover with a finger hole & photo to lift up to get tothe contents in the medal chest -- ***Not included in this particular photo isthe decorative purple band with tassels which hooks onto a small wooden knob oneach side of the medal chest (See band in 2nd picture on listing)

MEDAL CHEST, HOLDING TRAY, TOP COVER & SLAT PIECECOVER: Lacquered wood withhand-painted detailing under the lacquer-- There are areas where lacquerhas separated from wood & a very few tiny/small dings where lacquer hascome off of wood. There are also smudges& spotting on these items which may or may not come off with some cleaning, but I leave that task to the winning buyer.I took many photos trying to properly show the spotting, but, with theexception of one photo where a few of the spots can be detected (the last picon this listing), I have been unsuccessful thus far. I\'m not sure why my camera does not pick upthe spots in the pictures - maybe because it\'s old and not a pricey cameraand/or the spots are not glaringly visible in the house or because the spotsare on a black surface or due to lighting, but please offer knowing there isspotting on the various pieces of the medal chest. I have the same issue with the flag - somespots on it and light staining surrounding the red circle but does not show upin photos. If you request photosspecifically for the spotting, I will be happy to try to find someone who cantake pictures for me to, hopefully, better reflect the spotting. On the inside of the medal chest/box, theunderside of the top cover of the chest and the underside of the slat piece cover, the texture of the wood looks different than all the outer areas of the medalchest pieces. Additional issues withthe \"chest/box\" part of the medal chest: some separation of the lacquer from the outerbottom of the chest (cannot be seen looking into the chest) and a few lightscratches. Lacquer separation cansomewhat be seen in photo 11 in listing, but light scratches aren\'t reallyvisible. Additional issues withholding tray: the inner area of thetray where the medal case is placed has some separation of the lacquer from thesides of the tray. A portion of theseparation can be seen in the 10th picture on this listing. There is also justa bit of the same on the underside of the tray.Additional issues with the top cover of the chest: a few dings, a little lacquerseparation. Additional issues withslat piece cover: a few very tinydings --The medal chest contains four medals in original black presentation cases, four award documents in two original tubes (two documents per tube with eachdocument featuring a visual of the corresponding medal) and a used Flag ofJapan --Approximate measurements of medal chest:22 1/2\" Length - 7 1/2\" Width - 6 1/16\" Height
